2013 District 9 Open
September 23rd through 25th, 2013 - Las Vegas, NV

Gerry email Thu, Apr 4, 2013 at 6:59 PM:  Hi JR & Alan, We're planning the 9th District Tny Sept. 23, 24, & 25 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).  It's slated for the Travelodge Hotel.  They always give us great rates and a free playing room.  Rates are $35 per Night for Checker Players.  Do you know of any conflicts with other tourneys on those dates?  Hope both of you can make it this year. --- Gerry.

Scheduled same as last year's District 9 dates, on the 4th week of September.

District 9 Tournament. September 23, 24, & 25 (Mon. - Tue. - Wed.) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament will be held at the Travelodge Hotel (same place as last year, and same great room rates, but a different name), next to World Famous Circus Circus. Travelodge (2830 Las Vegas Boulevard South) phone number is 702-735-4222 and ask for checker tournament rate. Note: if you are using GPS or Google to locate, you use (Travelsuites Inn, 2830 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109)

Special Room rates are $35/day (including Sunday 9/22 before the tourney and through Thursday Sept 26),  and $51 on Friday and Saturday nights for those wanting an extended stay in the heart of Fabulous Las Vegas Strip. We’ll have a ball. Bring family and friends for an inexpensive vacation. We’re expecting some strong players this year.

Players from all districts are invited to attend. When making your reservations, mention you are a checker player for the special rates.  Families can enjoy the outstanding free performances at the Circus Circus which goes on most of the day.  Tourney play starts between 1 & 2 pm on Monday Play will be 3-Move. The entry fee is $25, there will be two classes: Masters & Non-Masters. The weather is usually very good at the end of September.  The pool is small but it's wet, fun, & comes with the venue package!

Gerry said,"Already some of the strongest players in the country have expressed interest in attending the event such as Jim Morrison, John Webster, Joe Schwartz, Dick Hallett, Anthony Bishop, Ken Shultz, and others. We’re planning to have two groups. An A and B group and even C if we get enough of a turnout. There will be a guaranteed first prize of $300 for first place. That should be easy picking for some players from other districts. This is a great time to attend the event." ---Gerry

District 9 includes: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Non-district residents are welcome to compete and enjoy Las Vegas. District 9 Manager, Mel Tungate
